The Way Ahead Group

The Way Ahead Group has used since
its inception a 4i model, acknowledging
the latest neuroscience, developing
awareness in clients of the huge
resources they have access to using each of these intelligences. Most
leaders have their jobs in the first
place due to a successful use of their
intellectual approach but still few are
aware of the resources they have in
the other intelligences.

Emotional intelligence. Following the
radical discoveries of Antonio Damasio
we now know just how interconnected
our feelings are with our whole way of
being. Bringing to awareness feelings
of happiness, sadness, fear and anger
in the leadership situation is helpful
and liberating.

Physical Intelligence is still at an early
stage of development for many leaders.
Damasio, Pert, Rothschild and others
have shown how early patterns of
attachment have influenced our way of being. We are researching and
writing about our own work on
Attachment theory and leadership and
how those early years, which crucially
were without language are held in our bodies and how they are reactivated
when we are anxious.

Old brain fight-flight mechanisms which
send cortisol rushing round the brain were there for a useful purpose, but
aren’t so helpful when we still react in
the same way when someone knocks
on the office door

Spiritual Intelligence. Not religious,
although encompassing that for
some, but a sense of the huge
connectedness of us all, the energy
of all living things. Re-connecting
with whatever touches that place
for each and every one of us is an
important part of our process.
